NA 24/7 PvPvE Hardcore- No Flyers

SoakingCave170
Hey all,

Some of you may or may not know that I host a Dedi for a group of about 20 people, and we're having a blast on "The Center" and are happy to say the server is displaying properly in the server list. We've decided to take to the forums here to get the word out and recruit some new survivors!

There's been some talk of playing Ark with a no flying rule to freshen things up, within our server and in the general discussion forum and we've decided to do just that. After many discussions over the last 2 or 3 months, we knew that we wanted to take our Ark survival experience and turn it to 11. Having conquered all of the challenges the game currently offers and spending our days floating around on quetzals, life on the Ark had grown stale. We began to crave a more authentic experience, and quickly got to work on deciding how our server was going to evolve into something more unique, more engaging, than what we were used to.

We knew right away that we wanted to bring the adrenaline rush back into the game, as well as really be able to savour the new map. so the obvious first steps were to remove the use of flying dinosaurs, and switch to hardcore mode. This makes it so ground dinos are much more valuable (even at endgame) and it opens up a whole new world of player interactions that would normally be overlooked/ignored, which leads us to the next point- Players.

Although with our current group we have enough players to have a good time, we really wanted to preserve as best as possible that day 1 feel, which is why I'm writing this right now. We want to see a server with a thriving community, with trade routes, player-made events, and new friends(and enemies!). Fairness to everyone is a top priority, so you won't see any admin abuse here. Not to mention that hardcore mode by nature will make the frequent raiding/alpha abuse seen on official dedis much more difficult. Although there are no specific rules on how or when you can attack, if you so choose.

The last major point was day/night speeds. We really wanted to try a real-time server, but with varying time zones that would make it extremely not fun for some people. We settled on 3 game days per real day, consisting of 6hr days with 2hr nights for three 8hr cycles. there's room for some adjustment here, but we're happy with it right now. Of course to go along with the realism of longer days, we wanted food and expiry to work in a similar fashion; for example it will take one piece of raw meat 4hrs to expire if left in a dinos inventory. We think this will make it much more realistic in terms of how food would actually work in those situations, as well as make taming a much less painful process with regards to prime meat.

In the end -as a group- we decided on these points (I'll update if I missed something:

  • No flying mounts

  • Hardcore mode

  • No Auto Turrets/Plant X

  • No rockets

  • Disabled Loot Crates

  • XP x1.5

  • Tame speed x2

  • Harvest amount x3

  • 8 hour day cycles (6h sunlight/ 2h night)

  • Food drain x0.2

  • Water drain x0.4

  • Player health recovery x2

  • Spoil time x6

  • Item/Corpse decompose x6

  • Crops grow slightly slower/die off MUCH slower

  • Eggs hatch/Mature x2 Baby food consumption x0.5

  • Resources grow closer to built structures

  • Player points in Health, Stamina, and Oxygen rise twice as fast

  • Minor tweaks

  • Player-mounted turrets and siege weapons, traps (narcotic, bear, etc), any dinos that function as "turrets", C4, grenades, etc are all allowed.

  • Gigas will be disabled as soon as there's a server setting for it, but currently they roam the map.

Most changes are to compliment Hardcore mode, like no turrets, (because who wants to be killed by an autoturret on hardcore?) and an increase in health gain per level so dying is a little less frequent. Or, to add a bit more realism.

A few settings are still up for debate, such as restrictions on explosives (namely rockets) and still need to be discussed, let us know what you think! If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know right here, the server is up 24/7(minus updates, of course) and is frequently monitored.

Everybody is welcome to come and play. If you're not sure, feel free to give it a try, maybe you'll stay! The server is open on "The Center" right now and can be found on the server list or by the GT below.

Add SoakingCave170 on XBL any time. You'll be added back within the day and you can join the server through that profile. Happy Surviving!

Forgot to mention: Server is hosted on Fibre Op 180/50, port forwarded, wired. Connection is always crystal clear.
